So, I’ve got a great new gig: blogging about development issues for young women over at Because I am a Girl.  “The Because I am a Girl movement is a global campaign to claim a brighter, safer future for girls” based on a long-term study by Plan Canada.  I blog about all sorts of stuff, like how to get involved, how different issues relate to women and girls, and profiling girls around the world that are taking action to make a difference.  Come and check it out!

My day started with a very cool Event which happened right in my living room! I watched people from over 124 countries participate by giving their voice to fight HIV/AIDS with Starbucks. Singing “All you need is love” and submitting a video to the Starbucks Love website. Starbucks (Red) Campaign is contributing money to the global fight against AIDS using various marketing campaigns, drink donations and in store purchases.

This World AIDS Day I was stuck at home writing a paper for one of my classes, which meant that I missed out on all the World AIDS Day events happening around the city :(.  At least my paper was an evaluation of meal delivery programs for people living with HIV/AIDS, so it was certainly relevant to the day!
I decided that during my breaks I would try to take action online and in my neighbourhood.  These are the results of my “virtual” World AIDS Day recognition - it worked out …

Tonight, CAPAIDS a great organization that Kate J and I support will be hosting their annual World Aids Day Fundraiser at the Annex Live.

The Canada Africa Partnership on AIDS (CAP AIDS) is a young Canadian charity focused on providing resources to the grassroots community-based organizations that are on the front lines in the battle against the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa
The CAP AIDS World AIDS Day (WAD) 2009 event will be an exciting social evening featuring live Canadian and African musical performances, dance, food, drinks, prizes and a silent auction!
